The Challenge
Silver Sport Transmissions is the market leader in overdrive kit engineering with a vast clientele that includes fanatical classic car enthusiast Jay Leno. Our team has been working with ShiftSST and supporting their e-commerce platform since they were on Magento 1.9. Due to a failed PCI compliance scan and end-of-life announcement of all 1.x versions, our team was tasked with the upgrade to the latest 2.x version. Rather than an upgrade, moving to Magento 2.x was a complete redesign and rebuild, which required careful planning and execution.
The Goals
- Redesign the site with a modern look and feel making it easy for customers to place orders from the desktop, tablet, or phone
- Migrate the site from a dedicated VPS to Amazon Web Services
- Normalize, scrub, and migrate the 1.9 database to the 2.x environment
- Upgrade the blog functionality and port nearly 100 posts by hand due to XML incompatibilities
- Integrate with PayPal Pro
- Upgrade the Quick Quote lead capture form
- Recreate the Speed Analyzer calculator
- Ensure SEO rankings stay the same through careful implementation of 301 redirects
- Pass PCI compliance scanning
The Solution
- Using our development process we achieved the following:
- a fast custom template was created as the foundation of the modern design
- 100% of the site’s functionality goals were met even though there were some compatibility challenges along the way
- Through careful planning, we ensured Silver Sport Transmissions’ organic SEO rankings did not waiver
